For years, the mocktail section at Indian events had one job: give non-drinkers something colourful to hold while everyone else enjoyed the bar. Usually, it involved a tall glass, some grenadine, a pineapple slice and a suspiciously enthusiastic cherry.
Thankfully, 2026 has better plans.
Mocktails are becoming a serious part of event catering, especially across Delhi NCR and Gurgaon. At weddings, corporate events and festive celebrations, guests now expect drinks that look exciting, taste layered and feel like an experience rather than an apology.
Modern mocktail menus are borrowing techniques from cocktail culture. Think muddled herbs, house-made syrups, fresh fruit reductions, botanical infusions and carefully balanced sweet-and-sour profiles.
A Jamun & Rosemary Fizz, for instance, brings together the familiar tang of jamun with aromatic rosemary and sparkling water. A Kafir Lime & Basil Cooler adds freshness without drowning everything in sugar.
Even classics are getting upgrades. A Nimbu Soda can become a sophisticated citrus spritz, while an Aam Panna cooler can be presented as a refined summer welcome drink.
This is where good catering in Delhi is moving: familiar Indian flavours, presented with a little more imagination.
The biggest trend is not importing fancy ingredients. It is looking at the Indian pantry differently.
Kokum, jamun, bel, gondhoraj lime, raw mango, rose, saffron, mint and even spices such as cardamom and black pepper can create memorable drinks.
For wedding catering in Delhi, this opens up plenty of possibilities. A wedding in Gurgaon could serve a Kesar Badam Cooler, a Rose & Lychee Spritz or a Spiced Guava Cooler alongside the traditional bar menu.
Indian guests love a live counter. We have proved this with chaat, dosa, pasta and kebabs.
So why should drinks be any different?
Interactive mocktail stations are becoming increasingly popular at weddings and private events. Guests can choose their base, fruit, herbs and flavour profile while bartenders build the drink in front of them.
And for wedding caterers Delhi couples are considering, that means one more opportunity to give guests something they will remember beyond the buffet.
Another big shift is the rise of sophisticated zero-proof menus.
Instead of simply offering soft drinks and juices, event hosts are creating dedicated non-alcoholic beverage lists. These can include botanical spritzers, fermented drinks, cold brews, iced teas and sophisticated Indian coolers.
This works particularly well for corporate events, family celebrations and weddings with guests across different age groups and preferences.
The best beverage menus now complement the food rather than compete with it.
Rich kebabs can work beautifully with refreshing mint and citrus drinks. Spicy chaats pair well with cooling kokum or aam panna. A dessert-heavy menu can be balanced with lighter berry, basil or citrus-based mocktails.
That is the real evolution of mocktail catering.
They are no longer decorative glasses sitting quietly beside the bar.
